Massacre: The South African English dictionary describes “massacre” as an indiscriminate and brutal slaughter of many people.
This is just one word that can be used to describe the brutal murders of not one but, 34 fellow south African mine workers. For most this day signifies a tragic day in south African post apartheid history, where mothers lost not only their husbands but they also lost breadwinners in many families.
Living in appalling conditions, fighting for their dignity and the right to safe and secure housing. These strikes took a turn for the worst when SAPS decided to scar the lives of over 360 families and individuals. When will enough be enough? who will fight for them when they can no longer fight for themselves or their families? debates over smoke and mirrors have tainted the lives of affected families.
Let us pay tribute to the lives lost in the massacre,To The the children scarred in the struggle. Let us use this day to remember the families and the lives that were affected by this day. Let us go back four years and pay tribute to Marikana…Let us Remember,Remember the 16th of August. #MarikanaMassacre.
